Spring News

April 2014
News from Mr. Victor Hopper, Superintendent

I hope you enjoy your Spring Break (4/14-4/18) and have time to spend with your family. We have so many exciting things happening in our District right now! Please log on to your child's school web site for information and a schedule of our new State Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium tests, details of our student activities; and believe it or not – we have already begun planning many new exciting things for next year!
As you know, we have finished gathering input for our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) from all interested stakeholders, and we are now in the process of integrating the information received into the template provided by the state.

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) Field Testing Coming

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) Field Testing Coming

Computer-Based Testing California will be providing spring assessments aligned with the new Common Core standards. These new assessments are often referred to as the ‘SBAC’, and they will be field tested in Lawndale Elementary School District between April 7 and May 16. “Field test” means that it is really a “test of the test”; the testing company will not grade these tests, and we will not receive results. All of the testing will be performed on computers, and we have upgraded our technology significantly to prepare for these assessments. If you would like to see samples of test questions, you can visit the website and click on “Practice and Training Tests” at http://sbac.portal.airast.org/ca/.

The Secure Browser must be downloaded and installed.  The sample questions must be viewed through it.

Support for Students We will have staff supporting our students in the coming weeks as they learn how to take these new computer-based assessments. AS with other testing, you can help your child do their best by ensuring that they go to bed early and eat breakfast in the morning!
